I’m fed up with the comment “If you don’t vote then you shouldn’t complain”.
I took the trouble of registering for this election. I even took the trouble of reading all of the manifestos shoved through my letterbox.
What I didn’t do is take the trouble to vote.
Why?
Because Guernsey voting papers do not have a little box at the bottom to tick saying “None of the above”.
Just because I refused to choose the best of a poor crop doesn’t mean that I forswear the right to complain. You cannot achieve high standards if you continue to accept mediocrity, whatever the reason.
Give me Island wide voting and I might just begin to sympathise with the sentiment behind this slogan.
Having said that, let’s hope that in four years time we can look back and vote with confidence to re-elect the intake of 2012.
